Help Index: Doc Manager Help
The doc manager script allows a site owner to easily add downloadable files and images and a library type format. The information below will help you get started quickly using the doc manager script.
The doc manager script module allows website owners to easily manage files available for download by their website visitors.
| Acceptable file types: | These are the types of
files that you are allowed to make available to your
visitors. Typical files types are the following:
*You can allow any file
types to be downloadable, but we do not recommend for
security reasons any executable files such as those ending
in .exe, .cgi, .pl, etc. |
| Default items per page: | The downloadable items
that your visitors see are shown in a vertical listing
format. Setting this option will determine how many
in the list will show up per page. |
| Icon width: | This will specify how wide
the thumbnail images will be in the listings to your
visitors. |
| Standard info fields: | These are fields that are default in the system. |
| Optional info fields: | If you want to add
customized fields such as version, size, chapter (if a
book or manual), etc. then you can specify those here.
These fields can be shown in the listings page that your
visitors see. |
You can manage (add/remove/edit) document listings by clicking on the "Manage Documents" link.
Add new document to your list:
Click on the "Add New Item" button
Fill in the fields accordingly
Click on the "Add Item" button at the bottom when you are finished
Manage documents within your list:
Within the "Doc Manager" section you will see a list of documents available to your visitors.
Click on the "edit" button
Delete documents from your list:
Within the "Doc Manager" section you will see a list of documents available to your visitors.
Check the box to the right of the document you want removed and click on the "Delete Selected Items" button.
Changing the status of the documents within your list:
Active: This specifies that your website visitors can view the document in your list.
Disabled: This specifies that your visitors can NOT see the document, however it's not deleted from your system. Making a document disabled is beneficial if you want to temporarily disable a document, but allows you to make it "Active" again when ready to avoid having to recreate the document listing all over again.
