The search engine script allows a site owner to have their very own customized search directory.  The information below will help you utilizing the search engine script quickly and effectively on your website.

Configuration Settings

Step:

  1. Login to your master admin at www.<yourdomain>.com/cgi-bin/master/Admin.cgi

  2. Go to Search Engine then click on Configuration

Category path separator
Main category Name
Show category totals?
Search result order
Search results per page
Number search results?
New site state
Allow multiple websites with same domain?
Show "Sorry, this category contains no subcategories" message?
Show email addresses?
Show website url?
Show city, state, and zip code?

Manage Listings

There are three different listing modes as follows:

  • Visible - This mode means that the ad is active and your website visitors and view the ad information.

  • Not Visible - The mode means that the site owner has decided to make the ad not available to the public for whatever reason.

  • Pending - If the site owner has in the configuration settings for all new ads to be in a "Pending" mode, then it will not be shown to the public until the admin manually reviews the ad and accepts it by putting it in a "Visible" mode.

Steps:

  1. Login to your master admin at www.<yourdomain>.com/cgi-bin/master/Admin.cgi

  2. Go to "Search Engine" then click on the "View Pending" link

  3. You will see a status drop down box next to each listing.  Simply change the status accordingly.

Specify premium listings

You can allow some listing to be listed at the top of the categories when visitors click on specific categories.  These listings can be for your Premium Sponsors etc. that pay for the top placements

Steps:

  1. Login to your master admin at www.<yourdomain>.com/cgi-bin/master/Admin.cgi

  2. Go to "Search Engine" then click on the "Site Manager" link

  3. Click on the "edit" link next to the link you want to change to a premium listing

  4. Change the "Ranking Boost" field to a number between 1 and 99.  The higher the number the higher it will rank in case you have multiple premium listings in the same category.  For example, you can have all silver sponsors at level 10 and gold sponsors at level 20.  All level 20 sponsors will show up first, then gold sponsors, then all others will be listed last.

Modifying help files

If you want to provide your members with a more extensive or "modified" version of help files you can. 

Step:

  1. Using your html editor on your pc, modify the following template:
    help-scripts/help-search.htm (master admin help file)

  2. Simply save the file with your new design and move it over to the server.  You will want to keep your images outside of the cgi-bin.

Adding 3rd party banner code to visitor pages

You can add 3rd party banner manager software or other scripts to your member's ads.  You will want to modify any of the templates found under the sections of "Visitor Pages" on the search engine customizing page.

Creating custom categories

You can easily create your own unique custom categories by doing the steps below. 

Step:

  1. Login to your master admin at www.<yourdomain>.com/cgi-bin/master/Admin.cgi

  2. Go to "Search Engine" then click on the "Category Manager" link

  3. You can create new categories by entering the category name next to the "Add New" button.  Click on the "Add New" button to create the category.

  4. You can also edit the category name by clicking "edit" next to a category you want renamed.

Email notifications

You can easily setup emails to be sent to visitors in the following situations:

  • When new url is submitted

  • When url is accepted after review

  • When url is declined after review

Steps:

  1. Login to your master admin at www.<yourdomain>.com/cgi-bin/master/Admin.cgi

  2. Click on "Search Engine"

  3. Click on "Email Manager"

  4. Modify the email text and whether or not to send the emails accordingly

Linking the search engine to your website

Simply point your search engine button on your website to the following url:
http://www.<yourdomain>.com/cgi-bin/search/home.cgi
Note: This url can also be found under the "Important URL's" link on the main startup page of the master admin.
